Greensboro Hosts Senate Re-birth Tournament
In its heyday, the City of Greensboro was home to the largest TNBA senate in the state of North Carolina. Somewhere along the way, membership dropped, leadership disappeared and the senate was disbanded. Last weekend, Joe Marshall along with several future members of the senate hosted a membership drive and rebirth tournament. Tommie Young worked with Joe to make this tournament a reality and hopefully initiated the restoration of the Greater Greensboro Triad Area TNBA Senate.
Officers and tournament officials from the Bull City TNBA Bowling Senate were on hand to assist the Greensboro group with this tournament. Bull City TNBA Bowling Senate members Brenda Bethea, Lisa Little, Nathaniel Whitfield, Tommie Young and Eddie Barnes spent hours doing whatever was needed to keep the tournament running smoothly. Bowlers and officers from the Durham, Raleigh, Hampton, Va. senates were on hand to participate in the tournament. The tournament netted a total of 42 doubles entries and 56 singles entries.
Durham bowlers Lisa Little and Nathaniel Whitfield walked off with the first place Doubles prize of $500 with a score of 1431 and local bowler, Michael Moore won the first place Singles prize of $210 with an excellent scratch score of 749. Congratulations go to these bowlers and also to Joe Marshall, Gwen Sanders and the rest of the Greensboro “senate-t0-be”members for a very successful first tournament.

Training Opportunity Offered To Bull City Senate Youths
The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) is offering an intensive multiple-day-training opportunity to National Bowling Association (TNBA) active youth and qualified coaches. Training will take place at the International Training Center in Arlington, Texas and selected individuals will receive a bowling education similar to a Team USA camp experience. This valuable opportunity represents an effort to further strengthen the collaborative relationship between the USBC and TNBA bowling organizations.
The National Bowling Association was founded in 1939 by African Americans and is open to all members of the bowling community. TNBA is an organization committed to the principals of Sportsmanship, Fellowship and Friendship. Youth members of the organization compete in TNBA and USBC certified local, regional and national tournaments annually.
The Bull City TNBA Bowling Senate (BCTBS) has developed a program to increase the level of knowledge and participation in the sport of bowling. This program provides the training necessary for area youth bowlers to become more competitive and ambassadors for the sport of bowling and TNBA. It will provide financial assistance to area youth bowlers to cover the tuition cost for their participation in this unique training opportunity. Through this program, area youth bowlers will compete with other area youth bowlers to participate in an intensive multi-day training opportunity at the International Training Center.
Participants will receive two days of training with one of three world class USBC professional coaches at the Center. The Bull City Bowling Senate will be responsible for all training expenses for the youth bowlers, while participants will be responsible for transportation and housing. Participants are expected to share the knowledge they receive with local youth bowlers when they return and become ambassadors for the sport of bowling and TNBA, emphasizing sportsmanship, fellowship and friendship.
Although the exact date of this training opportunity has not been confirmed, estimated time frame will be during the first two weeks of August, 2011. See a short video of participants in this training program by clicking on the following link. TNBA Youth at ITRC
